December Full Moon | Cold Moon | Supermoon 2025

by Victoria Chala

December 4th we receive the final Full Moon of the year which is also a Supermoon. This moon rises higher, is brighter and closer than usual (a cycle that repeats every 18 years). We are in the presence of a special natural phenomenon. This moon carries powerful emotional energy and spiritual influence. This Supermoon energy can be channeled to complete/release/conclude a cycle that we've been carrying for years (this is what I read at @thirdeye_intentions on Instagram). This can mean a relationship reaching a turning point, a new direction unfolding, emotional weight being dissolved, an internal burden being released.

And I have many questions. What does this mean? What should I be doing?

Tonight I will lead a creative group through a Full Moon ritual and we will stand in the moonlight with our offerings. But we will be arriving there from a day of experiences, from a week of conversations and unsaid words, from a month of emotions and physical sensations, from a year of energetic flow and influence.

So how can we truly use this time in a meaningful way? How can we arrive there honestly and in our best ability - without pretending that it has impact, without trying to force ourselves to feel something. Tonight we are being asked to connect to the intuitive, responding, cosmic part of ourselves, but maybe we have a hard time finding that part.

So what is our responsibility here - to the moon, to ourselves and to each other? How do we participate in this phenomenon with intention and presence and dialogue?

Then I remember that today is also an anniversary of my grandmother's passing. My grandmother who was vivacious, connected to nature, hardworking, loud-laughing, judgmental, resentful, resourceful, intelligent, loving, emotional. I included the "negative" words in her memory because they don't make her any less of a good person. She taught me so much.

As I remember this, I begin to imagine how I could celebrate the Full Moon with the presence of my grandmother. After all, she is the cosmic one now. And so is my other grandmother, and my grandfather, and their parents, and all ancestors that came before that. How will they celebrate the Moon?

I also think about the bird outside of my window - the bird's consciousness is out of reach to me - but what is the bird releasing in this Supermoon?

I write this to invite a reflection, a conversation, a pause. Perhaps you will decide to take a seat wherever you are and imagine being under the power of this timeless Moon, a part of Creation 4.5 billion years old. The Moon's single face has been looking at our Home for eternity as we know it. We are in relationship with each other. And she (the Moon) has the ability to do something for us, if we are willing to participate with a bit of faith, an intention, and an open heart.

I hope that you have a good Supermoon.
